THE EVENT

the Cowes to Cherbourg Race is a great fun end of the season race, very social and tightly raced. Starting on the Friday evening and heading straight to Cherbourg the coniditions normally allow for all crews to have a good social ashore before heading back North to cruise over night, normally getting back to the Solent for Sunday morning or early afternoon.

THE PLAN:

  • JOIN THE BOAT: Hamble | Friday 5th | 1100

  • OFF THE DOCK: Friday 5th | 1500

  • RACE START: Friday 5th | 1800

  • BACK ON THE DOCK: Southampton/Hamble | Sunday 7th | PM

Good to know

  • In case there are boat chores required ahead of the race, you might be asked for a little support by your skipper. It would be great if you could help out if necessary.

  • As a long-distance race, be aware that you will be operating a watch system. This normally means that a crew is split up and alternates being on / off watch. Often it's 4hr shifts with shorter shifts from 16.00-18.00 and 18.00-20.00 to ensure that you are not always on watch at the same time of day/night.

  • Bring your passport as you will be in France's territorial waters and ashore (where possible).
