RACE TRAINING WEEKENDS
🗓️ March & April 2024
💷 £395
📍 Hamble - Solent
Suitable for absolutely everyone from the budding new sailor to an experienced racer looking for a fun weekend to practice skills. You will have the opportunity to practice at each station on the boat and by the time the weekend has ended, unless the weather has been brutal, you will have flown the spinnaker, gybed it, taken it down and re-hoisted it enough times to feel confident with it.
We laugh a lot and don’t follow any fixed agenda so we can do what works with the weather and tide conditions.

THE EVENT
These training weekends are a great way to meet fellow racing sailors of all levels and we find at LSS for it to be an ever-growing community of like-minded people up for sailing adventures and pushing their comfort zones.
THE PLAN
We laugh a lot and don’t follow any fixed agenda so we can do what works with the weather and tide conditions.
Friday
You can often arrive in the evening to sleep on the boat for the night if you’d like. Please ask us about this as the boat may not always be available due to cleaning/maintanence
Saturday
All-day training and sailing around the Solent, often with lunch underway. Possible hour or so of land drills first thing to make sure all the crew are on the same page. Often we will end up in Cowes for the night or perhaps Yarmouth/Lymington/Portsmouth, depending on the tides and wind direction
Sunday
Back out for more practice after breakfast and showers again with lunch underway most often. Crew swapping positions and getting a feel for different roles on the boat. Finishing back in Hamble around 1700 after giving the boat a quick clean and hose down!

✅ Safety First
We maintain a high safety record and ultimately the skippers have the ultimate authority to take decisions with the crews safety as their number one priority.
🐬 No Fun No Point
We are a big fan of a stress free and happy learning environment onboard. We always encourage a relaxed and chilled approach to all the crews learning and sailing.
✅ Team Effort
Although we welcome all levels of sailing experience on most of our sailing events, we encourage joining with the view of being part of a team and everyone taking part and pulling their weight.
-
Having prior experience is great (especially racing with spinnakers) and if you’ve not sailed before we don’t recommend this being your first time.
However, our whole idea is to take amateur crews and have a jolly old time while improving our skills!
-
The event starts in Hamble on a Saturday morning until Sunday late afternoon. Contact us if you’d like to come down on the Friday evening.
-
You will be racing on one of LSS’s regular boats, most likely Kindred Spirit, a race-prepped Sigma 38, but others are possible too.
The boats are:
Kindred Spirit - Sigma 38
Kotari - Jeanneau 49
Playing Around - First 40.7
Red Hawk - First 36.7
-
The boats are based on the River Hamble.
Kindred Spirit is at Deacons Boatyard, in Bursledon.
If you are sailing on a different boat from another marina we will let you know in advance.
-
The Solent, which the River Hamble is on the Northern edge of, is the perfect training area between Southampton Water and the Isle of Wight.
Notorious for consistent winds, wicked tides, and a gorgeous variety of harbours, rivers and anchorages to visit.
An average week will see you visit any of the below:
Cowes
Yarmouth
Beaulieu river
Lymington
The Needles & Alum Bay
Newtown Creek
Portsmouth
Wooton Creek
Osbourn Bay
Langstone Harbour
Chichester Harbour
and many other little anchorages.
-
During the event, accommodation on the boat is provided. However, if you’d like to book accommodation please ask us before doing so.
-
If you’ve enjoyed it and want to continue to build your racing skills, we’d recommend joining us for a race or regatta such as the Round the Island Race, Taittinger or Dartmouth Regattas. Maybe you’d like to try something more offshore like a cross-channel race weekend?
-
We will be in marinas and harbours every day most likely so you won’t need to shower on the boat. The boats are fitted with a functional toilet, sink, showers and kitchen (galley) for cooking.

Excellent cruising and racing
I have been sailing with LSS/Ruaraidh a fair few times now; both racing in the UK and cruising in the Med. Both are well organised and a great value for money. The cruising is relaxed and very enjoyable. I have been to Croatia and Sicily, on very comfortable yachts and had a wonderful time. The racing…
