The Cowes to Cherbourg Race is a thrilling sailing event and in 2024 will be organised by both the Junior Offshore Group (JOG), and the Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC). taking participants from the iconic sailing hub of Cowes on the Isle of Wight across the English Channel to Cherbourg, France, and back.

THE EVENT
This challenging offshore race is a true test of skill and endurance, featuring:
Iconic Starting Point: Cowes, a renowned yachting destination, serves as the race's launchpad. The picturesque town buzzes with excitement as crews prepare their boats for this daring adventure.
Channel Crossing: Sailors face the formidable English Channel, known for its variable and sometimes treacherous conditions. Navigating these waters demands expert seamanship and strategy.
International Flavor: Competitors sail across the channel to Cherbourg, a charming French port city. The international aspect adds a unique dimension to the race, with participants experiencing a taste of French culture.
Return Challenge: After reaching Cherbourg and had a day to celebrate with a good French meal, sailors must make the journey back to Cowes (hopefully downwind all the ay) , completing the round trip. The return leg can be just as demanding, testing sailors' stamina and navigation skills.
Competitive Spirit: The Cowes to Cherbourg Race attracts a diverse fleet of boats and skilled crews. The competitive spirit is palpable as sailors vie for honors and bragging rights in their respective classes.

Previous experience required:
Previous offshore sailing experience required unless this is your first offshore race in the Fastnet Campaign
Experience of spinnakers/gennakers is handy

The race time depends on the weather forecast heavily but in our experience, with the early morning start, usually just over 24 hours to the Eddystone lighthouse if the wind is a usual Westerly, and faster on the way back downwind.
